How Are You Spending Your Time?
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NIV), “…With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
If a thousand years to God is a day to us, what are we doing with our time? As the scripture says, God is patient with us and he’s giving us time to repent (Romans 2:4). We live our lives day by day not always realizing that every day is an opportunity for us to display Godly behavior. If our faith is real, how much time are we spending working towards our Christian growth?
Our growth is essential in our walk with God, starting with faith and evolving to loving others. Efforts towards continued growth means that we have to know God more and follow him based on the foundation he set for us. How do we do this?
According to Peter, we have to pay attention to scripture (2 Peter 1:19-20). As we read scripture, we should ask God for wisdom (James 1:5) because everything that’s written is to encourage and give us hope (Romans 15:4). Through scripture, we learn God’s character (Hebrews 1:1-3), the gospel (John 5:39-40), God’s will (Romans 12:1-2) and receive the desires of our heart (John 15:7). These are only a few. Nevertheless, while reading the bible and spending time with God, he will decode mysteries and illuminate what you need to know to feed your soul.
