Depend on Him
Psalm 62: 1; 5-9 (GNT), “I wait patiently for God to save me; I depend on him alone…I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him…Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge. Human beings are all like a puff of breath; great and small alike are worthless. Put them on the scales, and they weigh nothing; they are lighter than a mere breath…”
Every now and then we find ourselves depending heavily on others only to be disappointed. The disappointment is heightened when the people/person of which we depend on is someone we love. In which case we must consider whether we have unrealistic expectations for those of whom we are dependent or continue to hold resentment towards those who, from our perspective, continually hurt us. Yet, when we depend on others, there is a part of us that is surrendering to them thus giving them control over the stronghold that is causing the dependence.
What is most troubling about dependence is the emotional state of mind of which we are being pushed into. After a while, our thought process transforms us from someone having control to someone being controlled. Therefore, we should look within, be honest with ourselves and ask the questions, “what situation led us to be dependent on anyone and why did we think we couldn’t do something for ourselves?”
Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
As David states in the psalm, he only depends on God. Our dependence should be on God and we should surrender to Him and give Him control of that “thing” of which we are dependent. When we do not depend on God, we are not exercising faith.
Father God forgive us for having more dependence on man and not in you. For whatever situations we are dealing with right now that is causing us to depend on others for the solution, we lay these matters before you. You are the one who is in control of our lives, not man. We trust that you will intervene in our circumstances in your own way and your own timing. Thank you for giving us peace of mind.
